MARIAH QUINTANILLA
ART & ILLUSTRATION
Mariah Quintanilla, an interdisciplinary artist based in Auburn, California, has recently found a creative sanctuary in her family’s residential glass shop. Surrounded by various forms of glass, Mariah explores the interplay of glass paint and epoxy resin. She intends to imbue her pieces with an ethereal quality that invites viewers to delve "inside" the artwork. Each piece begins with an underlying image infused with a specific emotion or mood. As she applies layers of resin, dye, and powder, the piece transforms, both in its physical depth and symbolic richness. Mariah finds a sense of serendipity as the dyes flow through the resin, obscuring the painted image beneath. She hopes to evoke a contemplative journey for each observer, where the interplay of materials creates a unique visual experience. Water has become a prominent theme in Mariah’s recent works. Whether depicting a sprawling ocean horizon or a person "Submerged," the element of water in her art evokes a range of emotions, from peacefulness to anxiety and playfulness.
